• Ujjain (Avantika): Ujjain or Ujjayini is an ancient pilgrimage which was known as Avantika or Avanti in ancient times. Ujjain is a Moksha Puri, has a Jyotirlinga, has two Shakti Peethas, and is a place of Kumbha Mela. Ujjain is located on the bank of river Shipra.

• Moksha Puri: Ujjain is one of the seven Moksha Puris (Mathura, Ayodhya, Mayapuri, Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika and Dwarka).

• Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga: Mahakaleshwar temple of Ujjain is a Jyotirlinga identified with the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga mentioned in Shiva Purana - Koti Rudra Samhita 16.

• Bhairava Parvata Shakti Peetha: Devi Avantika temple of Ujjain is a Shakti Peetha identified with the Bhairava Parvata Shakti Peetha mentioned in the Peetha Nirnaya Tantra.

• Ujjayini Shakti Peetha: Devi Harsiddhi temple of Ujjain is a Shakti Peetha identified with the Ujjayini Shakti Peetha mentioned in the Peetha Nirnaya Tantra.

• Place of Kumbha Mela: Ujjain is one of the four places where Kumbha Mela is held (Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik).
