Go back to the main garden page to see the way this bank and the garden used to look like. I got rid of the old trellis. It did not work out very well in the location it was in. Not enough sun lower down on the bank where it once stood I had a 40 ft long x 16 ft high rock wall built to contain the bank. Above the rock wall is a large flat spot for the new garden Above the new garden area is another flat spot where the greenhouse now stands. I stuffed a few strawberry plants into some of the cracks and some dwarf grass plants. The plan is to stuff a bunch more plants and moss into the cracks which will look pretty cool. |

The new garden will be on flat ground........ yeah!!! No more buckets or containers, all the plants will now be in the ground in raised beds. The trellis was sawed down and lifted up the bank. It will now stand at the rear of the garden. I had the excavator dig trenches in the clay soil. I dumped all my composted soil from the containers into the trenches. I have to raise the beds up higher, they are too low in the pictures above. Raised beds and mulched walking areas are in the plans for the 2011 garden. BTW, That is frost heave - ice crystals coming up out of the dirt. It's was really cold when I snapped these pics. |

The greenhouse now sits up above the garden on a flat spot. I am really liking this flat ground. It was a huge PITA gardening on the previous tiered surfaces. I built a composing drum from one of those blue plastic food barrels. You can see it inside the greenhouse. The greenhouse is so much warmer inside, I figure I can make compost inside it better than outside. |
