Deeds of Devi Kali:
- Slaying demons Chanda and Munda (sent by Shumbha-Nishumbha), thereby coming to be known as Chamunda (Devi Mahatmyam 7).
- Slaying demon Raktabija (sent by Shumbha-Nishumbha) along with Devi Chandika, by drinking the blood which fell from his body and devouring the asuras born from his blood (Devi Mahatmyam 8).

Penance on Devi Kali:
- Sage Vasistha is said to have performed sadhana of Mother Ugra Tara sitting on a Panchamundi Asana at the present Tarapith. (In the same place Sadhak Bamakhepa later performed his sadhana)
- Sri Brahmananda performed rigourous penance and had the vision of Mother Kali. He later came to the present Kalighat of Kolkata and met Aatmaram Brahmachari. Together they are said to be the founders of the original Kalighat temple of Kolkata (which was then a forested area).
- Sri Aatmaram Brahmachari by an inner call kept searching for the Divine Mother. He invoked Her with deep yearning as he travelled through many places. He finally came to the present Kalighat and got the vision of the Divine Mother. He also met Sadhak Brahmananda here. Together they set up the original Kalighat temple.
- Sadhak Ramprasad performed his sadhana invoking Mother Kali in a Panchavati grove, often sitting on a Panchamundi Asana near the place of the present Ramprasad Vita Kali temple of Halishahar.
- Sadhak Kamalakanta invoked Mother Kali sitting on a Panchamundi Asana near the place of the present Kamalakanta Kalibari of Bardhaman.
- Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa invoked Mother Kali for Her vision with great yearning in the Dakshineshwar Kali temple and its adjoining Panchavati garden. Later Sri Ramakrishna performed Tantra sadhana under the guidance of Bhairavi Brahmani sitting on a Panchamundi Asana in the Panchavati garden.
- Sadhak Bamakhepa invoked Mother Tara sitting on a Panchamundi Asana at the Tarapith Maha Samshan ground (Cremation ground), performing sadhana under the guidance of Kailashpati Baba and Mokshadananda.
