River Ganga
River Ganga:
Events:
Valmiki Ramayana - Bala Kanda 35: Sri Rama camping:
Sri Rama camped at the bank of river Ganga (after camping at river Sona) while travelling with Vishwamitra (and other sages) towards Mithila (from Siddhashrama). After bathing they kindled ritual fire and offered oblations to the manes and devas as per the custom.
Valmiki Ramayana - Bala Kanda 35 to 43: Story of the descent of Ganga: Sri Rama heard the story of the descent of river Ganga from sage Vishwamitra in details. It ended with the great penance of king Bhagiratha to bring Ganga to earth and redeem his sixty thousand ancestors from curse of sage Kapila. Sri Rama was spellbound to hear the entire story and the night passed as if in a moment.
