Scène uit de Tachtigjarige Oorlog, 1574: Magdalena Moons smeekt haar verloofde Francisco Valdez de bestorming van Leiden nog een nacht uit te stellen, gedurende welke de wind keerde, het land overstroomde en de stad gered werd. De Spaanse officier zit in zijn tent, met zijn linkerhand op zijn degen. Zijn echtgenote zit naast hem en wijst naar buiten. Rechts onderdelen van een wapenrusting.
