View of the Huis Te Vraag Inn on the Sloterweg, Rembrandt van Rijn, c. 1652
drypoint, printed with light plate tone on Japanese paper, h 78mm × w 209mm More details
Rembrandt rarely executed prints solely in drypoint. Since 1990, the precise location is thought to be the Huis Te Vraag Inn on the Sloterweg. The house with a veranda affords a view of the canal at the back. However, this waterway is not large enough to accommodate a sailing boat. Is the vessel one of Rembrandt’s imaginary additions?
