Rembrandt depicts the slumbering Antiope so convincingly that it seems he is drawing a model actually sleeping soundly. She lies in a totally relaxed pose, her lips parted and her arms raised above her head. Here, too, Jupiter, in the guise of satyr, visits Antiope in her bed at night, carefully lifting the sheet to peer at her.
