The part about Sartre having to invent and re-invent himself after seeing people around him fail to act during Fascism should really resonate with Americans after the 2020 election.

I’m curious if you know if Rick had ever read any of the works of J.G. Ballard, as his pulp modernist approach to depicting 20th century life as surreal would seem exactly up Rick’s alley.

Ballard’s last novel (Kingdom Come) in 2006 even featured a shopping mall as a place of weirdness as well!
