This sitter was formerly identified as Charlotte Amelia (1649-1722), daughter of the Landgrave of Hesse-Rheinfels. It now seems more likely, however, that this portrait depicts Madame de Soucarière (dates unknown). The sitter is certainly lavishly dressed: her outfit is heavily embroidered with gold and silver thread, and pearls and heron’s feathers adorn her headdress.
