Les Terrasses de Monte Cassino
John Russell
This is thought to have been painted during a stay in Cassino, south of Rome, by Russell and his wife in 1889, but also recalls the landscape near Antibes, south-east France, visited by the artist in 1890–1. He portrays the sun-bleached landscape with a bold use of such colours as pink, yellow, and turquoise.
