चक्रे वेदतरोः शाखा द‍ृष्ट्वा पुंसोऽल्पमेधसः ॥१

Tatah Saptadashe Jaatah Satyavatyaam Paraasharaat |
Cakre Veda-Taroh Shaakhaa Darssttvaa Pumso-[A]lpa-Medhasah ||1.3.21||

Meaning:
1: Then, Seventeenth in the line (of Incarnations), the Lord incarnated in the womb of Satyavati from Rishi Parashara,
2: He made (i.e. divided) the Tree of Vedas into Shakhas (Branches), seeing that the human beings were endowed with little Intelligence (to comprehend the unified Veda).
