Deity (Rig Veda 1.6) - Madhuchanda Vaisvamitra:

The Yagna Cycle

Deity (Rig Veda - Mandala 1 - Sukta 6 - Mantra 1):

Yun.jati Bradhnam-Arussam Carantam Pari Tasthussah |
Rocante Rocanaa Divi ||1.6.1||

(Yun.jati Bradhnam): Yoking the Sun (to the chariot).
(Arussam): Without rage (The early morning Sun without heat).
(Carantam): Moving (The Sun which is rising).
Comments:

- In this mantra, the arrival of Indra to shower grace is mentioned. Indra is coming harnessing the early morning Sun in the chariot.

- Earlier it was mentioned that Indra removes the Vrtras or the coverings. Since the Devas act from a plane which is both external and internal, their arrival transforms us internally and re-energizes the external Nature. Removal of Vrtras has made us more open to the natural world (which was earlier limited to our individual world cut off from the Cosmic Order). Now Indra is coming to shower the grace.

- Indra is coming with the Sun, a source of spiritual energy of very high order (remember Gayatri mantra).

Deity (Rig Veda - Mandala 1 - Sukta 6 - Mantra 2):

Yun.jantyasya Kaamyaa Harii Vipakssasaa Rathe |
Shonnaa Dhrssnnuu Nrvaahasaa ||1.6.2||

(Yun.janti Kaamyaa Harii): Harnessing (the chariot) with desirable horses to bring the Sun.
Comments:

- This mantra is a continuation of the previous mantra about the arrival of Indra with the Sun.

Deity (Rig Veda - Mandala 1 - Sukta 6 - Mantra 3):

Ketum Krnnvann-Aketave Pesho Maryaa Apeshase |
Sam-Ussadbhir-Ajaayathaah ||1.6.3||

(Ketum Krnnvan Aketave): Those who are without Intelligence, make them Intelligent.
(Pesho Maryaa Apeshase): Those who are without Beauty, make them Beautiful (with your rays).
Comments:

- In this mantra, the inner transformation which Indra and Sun brings is mentioned. The power of the Sun endows the Unintelligent with Intelligence. The power of the Sun endows those bereft of Beauty with Beauty.

- These are the boons which Cosmic Order showers when we are open to them. These opening to them has to be with an attitude of reverence, acknowledging the power of the Devas. We can get an idea of this when we go to a tribal area. They adore Nature and are endowed with a natural good health and beauty. They also have an intelligence of many medicinal gifts of Nature.

- The Vedic Vision of Nature proposes our lifestyles to become open to the Cosmic Order of Nature guided by the Vedic mantras, and harness the many gifts of Nature. Science and Technology has a part in this as the Head and the Hand and the Vedic wisdom remains the Heart. Such a lifesyle is a Yagna to manifest Rita in our Environment. Our Economy needs to be gradually designed around this Yagna.

- Currently our Economy is mostly around artificial goods and the associated services. The sum-total of the effects of these have made life unsustainable. Can't the Economy be based on the natural assets also? For this we should first know about all our natural assets. The Vedic mantras educate us about these and how they are all stringed to the Cosmic Order. When Economy is based on Vedas, the economic activities not only aims to bring natural outer prosperity but inner spiritual development.
