Sri Rama delivering Devi Ahalya (Gautama Ashrama)
(Ref: Valmiki Ramayana - Bala Kanda - 48 to 49)

•
Meditation: I meditate on
Sri Rama visiting the Gautama Ashrama (erstwhile hermitage of sage Gautama) in the outskirts of
Mithila and delivering Devi Ahalya from her curse.
•
Events:
1. Sri Rama visiting Gautama Ashrama: Sri Rama visits the erstwhile hermitage of sage Gautama while travelling to Mithila with sage Vishwamitra. The hermitage was in a dilapidated state.
2. Sri Rama hearing about the curse on Devi Ahalya: Sri Rama hears the story of Indra molesting Devi Ahalya by a trick and subsequent curse pronounced on her by sage Gautama. Sri Rama also hears about the unseen penance of Devi Ahalya during the period of her curse.
3. Sri Rama delivering Devi Ahalya: Sri Rama redeems Ahalya from her curse by His touch.
•
Pilgrimage: Gautama-Ahalya Ashrama is identified with
Ahalya Asthan and
Brahmapur in the
Darbhanga district of
Bihar.
