Sri Rama visiting Valmiki Ashrama
(Ref: Valmiki Ramayana - Ayodhya Kanda - 56)

•
Meditation: I meditate on
Sri Rama visiting the Valmiki Ashrama after entering
Chitrakoota.
•
Events:
1. Sri Rama travelling towards Chitrakoota: After spending a night on the bank of river Yamuna on the outskirts of Chitrakoota, Sri Rama takes bath in that holy river on the following morning. Thereafter, Sri Rama, Lakshmana and Devi Sita walks through a beautiful forested region. It had trees filled with flowers and fruits and honey-combs hanging from the trees. It resounded with the cries of peacocks and many other birds.
2. Sri Rama visiting Valmiki Ashrama: After walking for some distance they see the beautiful Chitrakoota mountain. They first visit the hermitage of sage Valmiki. The sage welcomes them cordially.
•
Pilgrimage:

Valmiki Ashrama is located in Chitrakoot. Chitrakoot is spread across the border of
Uttar Pradesh (
Chitrakoot district) and
Madhya Pradesh (
Satna district). The ashrama is on Allahabad Road on a hill in Lalapur village (
Uttar Pradesh). The place is around 24 km from Ram Ghat and situated on the bank of river Valmiki. It is said that Devi Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush here.
