Tiruttani

•
Meditation: I meditate on
Sri Muruga marrying Valli at
Tiruttani and leading a calm life.
•
Tiruttani:
Tiruttani is one of the
Arupadai Veedu temples of Muruga (one of the six holy abodes of Muruga).
•
Sri Muruga marrying Valli and leading a peaceful life: According to legend,
Sri Muruga led a calm and peaceful life here after vanquishing demon Surapadman and also married
Valli in this place. The incident of marriage with Valli is celebrated as a ten-day festival here during the Tamil month of Masi. The hill temple has 365 steps.
•
Shanti Puri: Tiruttani is known as
Shanti Puri or the Abode of Peace since Sri Muruga led a calm and peaceful life here after vanquishing demon Surapadman. Since Muruga is in a peaceful mood here, the Sura Samharan festival is not celebrated in this temple during Skanda Shasthi unlike other temples of Muruga.
•
Elephant instead of peacock: The temple has an elephant in front of the sanctum in place of a peacock.
• Tiruttani is located in the
Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.
