• Thirupullam Bhutangudi Divya Desam - Greatness:

Sri RamaMeditation: I meditate on Sri Valvil Raman and Pottramaraiyal (Hemambhujavalli) in Thirupullam Bhutangudi Divya Desam.

Divya Desam: Thirupullam Bhutangudi is a Divya Desam whose hymn was sung by Thirumangai Alvar. It is the 10th Divya Desam and is located in Chola Nadu.
- Perumal (Moolavar) is in Bhujanga Sayana posture facing East. The Utsavar image has Shankha and Chakra in hands.
- Pratyaksham: Chakravarti Thirumagan (Sri Rama), Krudra Rajan
- Mangalasasanam: Thirumangai Alvar (10 Pasurams)
- Vimanam: Shobana Vimanam
- Pushkarini: Jatayu Teertham, Krudra Teertham
- Sthala Vriksham: Punnai

The name Pullam Bhutangudi: Since Sri Rama performed the last rites of a bird (Pul in Tamil) which has passed away (Bhutan in Tamil) and rested in this place (Kudi in Tamil is a resting place), hence the place is known as Thirupullam Bhutangudi.


Deeds & Grace:

1. Sri Rama & Jatayu: Sri Rama performing the last rites of Jatayu: Sri Rama performed the last rites of Jatayu in this place. It is said that Sri Rama got the darshan of Lord Vishnu after performing the rites of Jatayu. Also, Sri Rama rested under the Punnai tree which is the Sthala Vriksham of this temple.
- Thirupputkuzhi Divya Desam: Another place associated with the same legend of Jatayu is Thirupputkuzhi Divya Desam in Thondai Nadu near Kanchipuram.

2. Sri Rama & Bhoomi Devi: Bhoomi Devi appearing as consort of Sri Rama: Bhoomi Devi appeared in this place to be beside Sri Rama during the performance of the last rites of Jatayu (since Devi Sita was not present). Since Bhoomi Devi appeared from the lotus tank of the temple, she is known as Pottramaraiyal.

3. Lord Vishnu & Krudra Rajan: Lord Vishnu (Rama) giving darshan to Krudra Rajan: Krudra Rajan meditated here on Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu appeared here before Krudra Rajan in the Bhujanga Sayana posture.
- Moolavar Image: The Moolavar Image of the Lord is in Bhujanga Sayana posture.

4. Sri Rama & Thirumangai Alvar: Sri Rama giving darshan to Thirumangai Alvar: Thirumangai Alvar first saw two princes (Sri Rama and Lakshmana) resting under the Punnai tree. He did not take notice initially and walked past them. Sri Rama gave darshan to Thirumangai Alvar in the form of Lord Vishnu with four hands holding Shankha and Chakra. Thirumangai Alvar sang hymns in praise of the Lord in this Divya Desam.

6. Pushkarini of the temple: The Pushkarini of the temple known as Jatayu Teertham or Krudra Teertham.

7. Sthala Vriksha of the temple: The Sthala Vriksha of the temple which is a Punnai Tree.

• Thirupullam Bhutangudi is located in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. It can be visited from Kumbakonam. The temple is located around 7 km from Swamimalai (via Swamimalai Road). Swamimalai is around 7 km from Kumbakonam (via Swamimalai Road).
