Worship of Lord Shiva by Sudakshina: It is the place where devotee Sudakshina, the king of Kamarupa worshipped Lord Shiva inside a prison seeking protection from the atrocities of demon Bhima. Lord Shiva appeared there and reduced demon Bhima and his army to ashes after a terrible fight. Then on the request of the devas and sages Lord Shiva abided there as the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga.
