The mizhavu (miravu) is a pot drum from Kerala. It is made from a very large pot, us­ually made of copper or brass, that is covered with a skin. There is a small sound hole in the side. It is associated with the trad­itional Sanskrit theatre of Kerala known as Kutiyattam. It is also associated with the trad­itional theatre of Koothu. Traditionally the mizhavu was played by mem­bers of the Nambiar Community, but today it begin­ning to find a broader usage.
