Tivra tala is a common pakhawaj tala that consists of seven beats. Tivra tala used to be one of the most popular choices of talas to use in ancient dhrupada music. As that fell out of fashion, tivra tala slowly lost its popularity to the more popular tabla version, rupak tala. Tivra tala is still used in Bengal, as many compositions were composed in tivra tala.
