Ādi tāla (“original rhythm”) is a common pakhawaj tala is used to the same extent that kaherva is used in tabla. There is another tala in the Carnatic system which is also an 8 matra talam with the same divisions. However, their adi talam is quite different than the Hindustani version presented here.
