Raga
Des is a raga heard in the night, like all of the ragas in the Khamaja that. The origin of the name of the raga is not
known, although des means “country.” The Indian national anthem, “vande mataram” is heard in this
raga. Raga Des has a special place in Bengali folk and devotional music as many
bhajans in Bengali are heard in Des. Bengali singers
use komal ga when singing
it the high octaves as a grace note, but ultimately hit the high suddha ga when expressing emotion
in the downfall of notes.
