18 watt Stout TMB project |
|
Note that Hoffman boards are not assembled by looking at my builds. I do test builds first and change the designs based on those builds. You assemble Hoffman boards using the documents listed below. The Layout Diagram, Schematic and BOM for this board are on this page |

An updated picture of my Stout TMB with a faceplate I made this faceplate on my CNC machine I do not make faceplates for sale because it is a huge time consuming process I have to say that because people are going ask me to make them a face plate |

This is the updated 18 Watt Stout TMB (Treble-Mid-Bass) The parts list for this amp is on this page The Schematic, layout diagram and BOM are on this page I am using the Hoffman Stout Chassis found on this page - Page Link The transformer set the Heyboer 18 watt PT and OT, plus a 125C3A choke - Page Link The tubes are EH 12AX7's, Sovtek EL84's and a Sovtek 5Y3 rectifier - Page Link Some detail about the chassis The chassis is pre punched with all the holes you see plus a few extra pot holes There are 2 x 9 pin sized holes and 3 x 8 pin sized holes I used 9 pin block off plates because I wanted to use EL84 power tubes - Page Link As I do a build for the first time, things are bound to change as I assemble the amp Some of the pictures below may be slightly different than the current Stout TMB turret board note that I add the parts to the board after I have run all the wires to the tube sockets I add the wires that go to the pots last because they are above the board This results in a very clean looking board All the parts have straight leads and there are no big solder flux blobs on the board |

There's a bunch of stuff packed into this small chassis All the filter caps are contained in a JJ 40x20x20x20/500v cap - Page Link The Turret board is a Hoffman Stout board version #1 - Page Link I have since updated this board to include the parts for Treble, Mid and Bass Other changes I made I moved a few lugs around to new places and shortened the board length The updated stout TMB board is shorter and incorporates all the design changes I made during this build |

I decided to add Treble, Middle and Bass to the original Stout circuit I added a 3 lug terminal strip to the back of the treble pot to have a place for the tone control parts I attached the capacitors for the tone controls to the terminal strip The new Stout TMB board now has these caps on the board so the terminal strip is not needed |

One change I made to the Stout TMB design was that I added some negative feedback This tamed the high end harshness and reduced the amp hum level in the original Stout circuit You can see the feedback resistor leaving the rotary impedance selector switch and going to the board |
