How to determine if your chassis is a good candidate for a Hoffman board. |
The Hoffman boards can be installed in re-issue PC board type amps or scratch built amps. By removing the printed circuit board and installing one of these
hand wired boards you can greatly improve the tone of the amp at a very reasonable price. The boards can be installed by you or by a service technician. All you need is a proper amp carcass to install one of these kits. Chassis that may be used include the BASSMAN re-issue, BASSMAN heads, some JCM800 heads, PLEXI re-issue heads or some of the so called Fender re-issue models now being made. See the chassis type drawing below to determine if your chassis will be a good candidate for a board kit. |

Note: If your project chassis does not have a tube socket hole pattern similar to the drawing above, the boards probably will not fit. You need to be able to put a 3 1/8th inch wide circuit board right along side a straight line of tube sockets and still have some room at the front for pots and input jacks. If you have a chassis with tube socket holes scattered all over the chassis or you do not have at least 5 inches of room from the front of the amp to the edge of the tube socket holes, the chassis probably will not work. You need to leave room for input jacks and pots along the front edge of the chassis. Some chassis like Sovtek's have reversed tube socket patterns and will not work unless you have a mirror image board made. |
