I had four of the these Marwi View Point Halogen lights laying around. Performance used to sell these lights and there are thousands of them out
there. They are pretty cool little lights. They are very light weight and they have a rubber sealed push switch on the back. I got curious and took apart a P7 flashlight to see if
I could fit the LED inside the halogen light. To my surprise, they were exactly the same size glass and the reflector fit perfectly inside. The halogen bulbs that were used in these
lights had the front glass piece glued right to the halogen reflector and so I popped in the P7 flashlight glass and reflector. |

All that was needed was to make an aluminum heat sink/LED holder. You can see the piece that I turned on my lathe above.
The outer diameter fits snug into the Marwi light and is in contact with the outer surface. This should draw heat away from the inner piece to the outer shell.
The wires pass from the LED, through the wall, to the rear of the light
Left: The LED sits down into the heat sink.
Right: The backside is hollowed out to keep the mass low which aids in shedding heat. |
