Gr = Guitar Rig in the text below. In order to be able to record the wav output from Guitar Rig and playback the mix without headphones and overdub in Mixcraft 2, I have two sound cards installed my computer. I playback the mix through one soundcard through a set of speakers so I don't have to wear headphones. I am listening to the playback mix through speakers and playing along to the mix during my overdubs. GR uses ASIO drivers for super low latency. I record the direct wav output of Guitar Rig through another soundcard that has ASIO drivers. I have GR set up so it outputs as wav. If you try to overdub a recording in Mixcraft 2 without using the method described above, you will be recording your playback mix and Guitar Rig at the same time on your overdub tracks. This is not what you want to happen, you only want to record the wav output coming from Guitar Rig. This is the reason I use two soundcards. I have a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS card installed in a PCI slot that I use for GR and I am also using the on-board Realtek AC'97 soundcard that is on my ASUS mother board for playback. Both cards are installed with the proper drivers and Windows XP has sorted it all out nicely. Each card has it's own IRQ and resources and there are no conflicts. Both sound cards have their own set of speakers so I can hear the output of both cards at the same time on separate speakers. Below are the setups in Mixcraft 2 and your windows mixer programs in order to be able to overdub GR properly. Both soundcards will have their own setups for playback and record in the windows mixer. The method described above is only for recording GR and using Mixcraft 2. Other recording mixing programs are able to use GR as a plugin or VST effect and so that would all be quite different from what I am doing. Update: I now use a M-Audio firewire Solo now for the playback and I also use it to record my Bass Guitar. |

When you hit the record button on Mixcraft 2, this window pops up. To record and overdub Guitar Rig choose the Soundcard that you use for guitar Rig. Choose Source as "What you hear". Check the Overdub box. Play your guitar and set the left and right recording levels. Hit the Record button when you are ready to go. |
