Favorite vocalist(s) from the past Beginning from Tiger Varadachari to M D Ramanathan, I like the music of most of the stalwarts. G N Balasubramanyam I like all the great stalwarts for different aspects.  Some among them are Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer,  Ariyakudi, Madurai Mani Iyer and T Brinda, who is my all-time favorite. I have been inspired very much by Voleti Venkateswarulu's music. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar and M D Ramanathan are also my favorities. Madurai Mani Iyer and G N Balasubramanyam Madurai Mani Iyer and G N Balasubramanyam
Favorite instrumentalist(s) from the past Each one had his/her own distinct style. I like each style for its uniqueness. Rajaratnam Pillai, Mali, Palghat Mani Iyer are some of my favorites in a long list. T N Rajaratnam Pillai I also have great respect  for all the instrumentalists of the past. To mention a few, Karaikurichi  Arunachalam, T N  Rajaratnam Pillai and flute Mali.  S Balachandar, Rajaratnam Pillai Palghat Mani Iyer, Palani Subramanya Pillai and  Ramanathapuram C S Murugabhupati. Palghat Mani Iyer, C S Murugabhupati, Palani Subramanya Pillai, Flute Mali, and Dwaram Venkatasami Naidu
Favorite vocalist(s) of the present day Once again, I like everyone for their individuality. In particular, I like to listen to Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and T N Seshagopalan. T N Seshagopalan and T V Sankaranarayanan I like everybody's music. T N Sehshagopalan, T V Sankaranarayanan, Sanjay Subramanyam and Sudha Raghunathan Balamuralikrishna, Semangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Seshagopalan and K V Narayanaswamy are a few of my favorites. I like all the vocalists.
Favorite instrumentalist(s) of the present day I respect the best in everyone. Lagudi Jayaraman and M S Gopalakrishnan I generally like all instrumentalists. In particular, I have great regard for Mandolin Srinivas. Mysore Nagaraj, T K Murthy, Umayalpuram Sivaraman and Tiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam. Violin - Lalgudi Jayaraman, M S Gopalakrishnan & G Chandramouli.  Mridangam - Trichy Sankaran, Karaikudi Mani, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, T K Murthy, Palghat Raghu and Vellore Ramabhadran. I cannot specify any one and leave the others when everyone is good in one aspect or the other.
Favorite composer(s) Trinity, Subbaraya Sastri and so on. Trinity and Papanasam Sivan I am not a great musician  to judge anybody. I like the works of all the great composers and respect them. Trinity and Papanasam Sivan Being a Mridangist I do not know much about composers.  Anyhow I like most kritis, irrespective of the composer. My father is a prime disciple of Papanasam Sivan, so I have heard a lot about him and like his compositions. I feel that there should be at least one Tyagaraja kriti to  make a concert lively.  I like Papanasam Sivan's kritis too for the bhakti in them.
Favorite raga(s) I like the rakti ragas which are unique to Carnatic music. Ghana ragas like Bhairavi, Todi and Kalyani. I cannot mention any raga in particular as it depends upon my mood. Maduvanthi as it is catchy, Jog and Shankarabharanam Sindhubhairavi. I also like Ghana ragas. If sung in the right way, I like all ragas.
Favorite venue(s) No favorite. I respect each venue that I perform at. Sastri Hall, Luz Nanganallur Anjaneyar Temple As long as the sound system is good, I like all venues.  A few among them are Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Chowdiah Hall in Bangalore.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mini Hall All the Sabhas in Chennai are good.  However I feel very satisfied when the listeners are seated very close to the dais, so that the reactions of the rasikas can be watched easily.
Favorite hobbies Music, Music, Music... always. Reading books Whether you call it hobby or otherwise, my hobbies are connected only with music. Apart from playing Chitravina, I also sing along with my cousin K N Shashikiran. I also compose Tillanas.  Listening to music as it is a part of me. I am a full-time Mridangist. I listen to lot of good music. I like watching Cricket. When I was in Neyveli I had an opportunity to take up gardening as my hobby. However, I now live in a apartment and am not able to continue my hobby. I always play or think about Mridangam or listen to music.
