MADRAS MUSIC MELA 2001 |
MEET VIOLINIST V TYAGARAJAN |
This is the centenary year of the violin legend Papa K S Venkataramiah. This year's TTK Awardee is his son and disciple, veteran violinist V Tyagarajan. Born on December 18, 1927, his tutelage in music began at the age of six under his grandfather and continued under his father. His debut as a concert artiste was in the year 1947 at the Tyagaraja Aradhana in Tiruvaiyyaru. Having accompanied all the prominent artistes in the last 5 decades, he also served the All India Radio for several years. Another feather in his cap was his being invited as a Visiting Professor at the Wesleyan University, Connecticut. |
