Carnatica's Pushkala Ramakrishnan in a brief chat with 'Nadopasana' Srinivasan, the Secretary of Nadopasana Music Trust. | |
When did you start
Nadopasana? We started it in July 1968. Who are the founders of Nadopasana? There are seven active members in our committee who are interested in music . We founded this Sabha. We share our work and do not possess any designation. Any particular incident which prompted you to start the Sabha? Thirty-three years ago, people were very interested in music and dance. There was a good audience to appreciate and encourage good music and artistes. So seven of us music lovers thought that it would be nice to start a Sabha, and we named it 'Nadopasana'. Earlier our membership fees used to be Rs. 450. But now we have been able to bring it down to Rs. 250, thanks to the patronage of many music lovers. What are the general objectives of your Sabha? Promoting classical music is the prime objective of our Sabha. We do not conduct dramas or dance performances. We encourage musicians who are our Sabha members by providing them one concert. How are you different from other Sabhas? We plan our December music season festival in such a way that deserving musicians who are not normally featured by other music promoters get an opportunity. What is the award that you give and what do you give the awardees? We do not give any awards for musicians and do not believe in that too. Do you have any novel concerts or concepts for this season? As we promote only pure Carnatic music, we do not have any new type of concerts. Every year, on New Year's day, we have a flute concert by the Sikkil Sisters. |
