MADRAS MUSIC MELA 2001 - MIRCH MASALA - By Adhikaprasangi |
One of the reviewers commissioned by Carnaticmusic.com for the music season apparently swore to rip apart a young musician and co-promoter of this site, even before his concert commenced at Narada Gana Sabha. The vengeful lady's comments were overheard by one of the musician's fans. When this was repeated to the musician, he said with a twinkle in his eyes, "Oh, if she had met me after the concert, I would have at least given her some tips on where to criticise me!". Eventually, after a lot of badgering, he confided that the reviewer had 'other' reasons for her prejudice towards him. This is where it gets juicy! Apparently, she has been going around claiming that the CD-ROM brought out by this musician in partnership with another musician, should have rightfully been accredited to her as it has been structured just like her unheard of and unseen book! Challenges from these young musicians to publicly prove this have only been met with silence. As the musician himself joked, "Well, she couldn't rip me of my money. Let her at least have the pleasure of ripping my music apart!"
The other co-promoter of this site rendered Vanaspati in her concert for a Sabha run by a percussionist. However, after the alapana, she announced it as Navaneetam. The violinist continued to play and the vocalist moved on to render Tyagaraja's Pariyachakama. She realised her mistake only when a few confused rasikas approached her at the end of the concert to clarify the point. We have heard of the Katapayadi Sankhya, but here is the new theory - Yatapakadi Sankhya! Navaneetam (40) would fit instead of Vanaspati (04) under this new theory!! :-))) |
