A number of CD-ROMs replace all the printed literature that has traditionally been supplied. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTS_ =Typically, each vehicle is supported with the following documents. Workshop Manual Overhaul Manuals Electrical Library Electrical Circuit Diagrams Body Repair Manual Owners Handbook In-car Entertainment Handbook PDI and Maintenance sheets If printed on paper, this would equate to around 3000 pages for each model! TXTS A CD-ROM can contain all the technical information for four or five models. As RAVE includes older models in addition to current models, the full suite of technical information is supplied on a number of CD-ROMs. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTS@ To view the information on the CD-ROM, a PC is required. It should have the following minimum specifications: Intel 486DX2/66 or equivalent 16Mb RAM 10Mb free disk space CD-ROM drive (4x speed or better) SVGA Graphics Card (800x600 resolution with 256 colours) Windows 95/98/2000/NT4.0 TXTS *There is no installation routine to perform prior to viewing RAVE on a PC for the first time. All the files required by the RAVE program are contained on the CD-ROM. To find out how to start RAVE, click on the forward arrow. TXTS To start using RAVE, insert the RAVE CD-ROM in the PC CD-ROM drive. In most cases, there will be a short pause before the RAVE program starts automatically. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTSW 5If the RAVE program fails to start automatically, there should be a RAVE icon on the PC desktop. Double click this icon to start the program. An alternative is to use the Start button on the taskbar and select, Run followed by RAVE.exe from the CD drive. Double-click the desktop RAVE icon to continue. TXTS }The first screen to be displayed is the Welcome screen. Select the forward arrow to find out about the areas of the display. TXTSp NThe top area of the screen is called the Title Bar and is standard on all Windows programs. To the left of the bar is information about the application running and the name of the file being viewed, in this case [welcome.pdf]. The buttons to the right are also standard Windows buttons that Minimise, Maximise or Close the Window. TXTS The indicated area of the screen is called the 'Menu Bar'. Selecting menu items produces a drop down list of functions. Click on the 'File' menu item to continue. TXTS( This is the 'Tool Bar'. The toolbar contains buttons that activate functions that are used most often. Functions that are not on the toolbar can be found from the menu bar. The most important toolbar buttons will be covered in other sections of this tutorial. TXTS The main area of the display is the 'Viewing Area'. This is the area that displays all the information that would normally be on a printed page, if you were looking at a book. TXTS lThe area towards the bottom of the window is the 'Status Bar'. It contains information about the document that you are viewing. In this case, the document being viewed is at 100% its original size and you are viewing the first page of a document that has only one page (1 of 1). There are other buttons on the Status Bar that will be explained in other sections. TXTS The last areas of the screen to mention are the 'Scroll Bars', which are standard Windows items. They are active when the page is too big to fit on the screen. Click the forward arrow to find out about navigating in RAVE. TXTS During the tutorial, you will see examples from the Range Rover technical information. The examples could equally have been taken from any of the Land Rover models. TXTS nThis section shows you how to navigate through RAVE. Click on any part of the RAVE Welcome screen to continue. TXTS The CarParc screen is displayed, it provides access to all the information on the inserted CD-ROM. Select New Range Rover to continue. TXTS Once a model has been selected, its library screen is displayed. The screen is split into two parts. The left side of the screen is referred to as the Bookmarks. The right area is known as the viewing area. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS Bookmarks provide links to the available documents for the selected model. At the top of the Bookmarks is a link to the CarParc. Selecting this will return you to the model selection screen. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS A + sign next to a bookmark indicates that there is more than one item to choose from. Clicking on the + sign will expand the choices. Click on the + sign next to Workshop Manuals to continue. TXTS` >The bookmarks have expanded to show the available documents in Workshop Manuals. The + sign has changed to a - sign. Selecting this will hide the additional choices for a section. Selecting an item without a + or - sign will display the document in the viewing area. Select Service Procedures to continue. TXTS qThe Bookmarks have been updated to show the contents of the new Range Rover Workshop Manual Procedures. The first page of the document is displayed in the viewing area. Note that the Bookmarks list provides links back to the CarParc and the Library. If you ever get lost, use these links to get back to the start of the manuals. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS' The highlighted toolbar button is the Show/Hide Navigation Pane. Clicking this button toggles the Bookmarks on and off. If you are ever using RAVE and cannot see the bookmarks, try selecting this button. Click the + sign next to Engine V8 to continue. TXTSe CNow expand the Repairs section and select Acoustic cover Engine TXTS The page containing the service repair operation for acoustic cover is displayed on the right of the page. You will learn how to alter the size of the page in another section. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS cThese four buttons, shown on the toolbar, are also repeated on the status bar. Both sets of buttons have the same function. The middle two buttons page backwards and forwards one page at a time. The outer two buttons turn to the first and last page of the current document. Select the page backwards button followed by the last page button to continue. TXTS As the last page of the document is now displayed, both the next page and last page buttons are grey and hence are inoperative. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS- *The instructions for Top Rail fascia are displayed. If you wish to navigate back through the pages that you have already viewed, two trace buttons are provided. Click the previous view button once to return to the page from which you came. TXTS That completes this section of the tutorial on basic navigation. Click the forward arrow to continue to the Changing the View section. TXTS\ :Some pages, such as this one, have hyper-links to other sections of the document. The first line of the repair shown is to remove the fascia top rail. An icon of a pointing hand indicates that there is a link to the relevant part of the manual. Click on the link to navigate to the related part of the document. TXTS This section shows how to alter the size of the page on the screen. Begin by clicking on the Show/Hide Navigation Pane button to switch off the bookmarks. TXTSt REach of the three buttons shown on the toolbar adjust the page to preset magnification modes. From left to right, the buttons are Actual Size, Fit in Window and Fit Width. The mode currently showing is Fit in Window, which adjusts the magnification so that a whole page is displayed. Select the Actual Size button to continue. TXTS The page has zoomed to 100%, as indicated by the highlighted figure on the status bar. Click on the Fit Width button to continue. TXTS The page has expanded to fill the width of the window. Another way of adjusting the size of the page is from the magnification drop-down on the status bar. Click on the magnification drop-down arrow and select Fit in Window to continue. TXTS |The Toolbar contains a Zoom button that enables an area of the screen to be magnified. Click on the Zoom tool to continue. TXTS The mouse cursor has changed to a magnifying glass. Clicking on an area of the page zooms in on that area. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS Alternatively, use the zoom tool to click and drag a box around a section of the page that you would like to expand. The area of the page enclosed by the box will fill the screen when the mouse button is released. Select the forward arrow to continue. TXTS sThe + sign in the magnifying tool icon indicates that the tool is set to zoom in. Holding down the keyboard Ctrl key will temporarily change the zoom in tool to a zoom out tool, indicated by a - sign. Alternatively, clicking and holding on the toolbar button allows the zoom tool to be permanently changed to a zoom out tool. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTSY 7RAVE provides two ways of moving the page around the screen. One way of moving the page is by using the scroll bars. A second way to move the page is by the Hand Tool. Once the hand tool has been selected, clicking and dragging on the page allows the page to be moved. Select the forward arrow to continue. TXTS! When a document is first displayed in the viewing area, only a single page can be displayed at a time. Sometimes it is advantageous to be able to see the bottom of one page together with the top of the next. Click on the highlighted button to continue. TXTS This button allows the selection of different display modes. The continuous mode allows consecutive pages to be displayed together. Select Continuous to proceed. TXTS Using the hand tool, the page can now be dragged to display two pages at once. That completes the section on changing the view. Click the forward arrow to view the section on Searching. TXTS< An advantage of using RAVE is that searching the CD-ROM for specific information is quick and efficient. The find tool is highlighted on the toolbar. It enables the current document, Range Rover Workshop Manual in this case, to be searched. Click on the Find button to continue. TXTS In the dialogue box, enter the information that you want to search for. For this tutorial, click into the 'Find What' box and enter 12.60.26, the SRO for Oil pump, and then click on Find. TXTS The specified criterion is searched for, starting from the page currently being viewed. If a match is found, the page is displayed and the matching word highlighted. Select the Find tool to continue. TXTS Note that the dialogue box contains the previous search criterion and the button has changed to Find Again. Click on Find Again to search for the next occurrence of 12.60.26 in the Range Rover Workshop Manual. TXTS hThe next occurrence of 12.60.26 is displayed in the viewing area. Select the forward arrow to continue. TXTS9 A more powerful way of searching the content of the CD-ROM is the Search tool, highlighted on the toolbar. Unlike the find tool, the search tool will scan many of the documents on the CD-ROM to find matches to the specified criteria. Click on the Search button to continue. TXTSI 'The displayed dialogue box contains more options than the Find dialogue box. It is likely, however, that you will use only the Find Results Containing Text. For the tutorial, click in the top white area of the dialogue box and enter the connector number C0332. Then click on the Search button. TXTSH &The results of the search are displayed in a dialogue box. In this example, the Search Results indicate that 32 documents have been searched, and the text C0332 has been found in 2 of them. The 2 documents are listed. Select Range Rover Electrical Library and then click on View to continue. TXTS The first occurrence of C0332 in the Electrical Library is displayed and highlighted in the photograph. Three additional buttons are now available in the toolbar. Select the Search Results button, highlighted, to continue. TXTS" The Search Results dialogue box is displayed. The status line of the dialogue box provides information about the search. Document 2 of 2 is being displayed and the first page of 13 containing C0332 is being viewed. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTS The right two highlighted buttons on the toolbar navigate to the previous and next occurrences of C0332 in the search results. Click on the Next Highlight button, on the right, to continue. TXTS The next page containing C0332 is shown and the status bar indicates that page 2 of 13 is displayed. Click twice on the Previous Highlight button to continue. TXTSK )The sixth page containing C0332 of the Electrical Circuit Diagrams is shown. If you get lost whilst using the previous and next highlight buttons, remember that clicking the search results button will indicate the current document being shown. Click the forward arrow to find out about printing. TXTSD "The information on the RAVE CD-ROM can be printed to a suitable printer when connected to the PC. Pages printed from RAVE will look the same as traditional paper manuals except if a colour printer is used, in which case the pages will be in colour. Click on the forward arrow to continue. TXTS xThe print options are available by clicking on the Print button on the toolbar. Click the Print button to continue. TXTS By default, the whole of the document is printed, 888 pages in this instance. It is unlikely that you will want to print the whole document and there are ways identify which pages to print. Select the forward arrow to continue. TXTS If you wish to print only the page displayed on screen, select Current page from the Print Range section before clicking OK. TXTS If you want to print a range of pages, select the 'Pages from:' option. Note that this option also defaults to the whole document, page 1 to page 888 but can be edited. TXTS Care should be taken when entering a range of pages to print. The pages referred to in the print dialogue are show in the status bar, NOT at the bottom of the viewed page. TXTSV 4That completes the printing section of the tutorial. TXTS The revealed option list provides access to a number of functions, including open, close, print documents and exit RAVE. Click the forward arrow to continue. TXTS You should have entered 12.60.26 in the find dialogue box. This has now been done for you. Click on the Find button to continue. TXTS You should have entered C0332 in the Search dialogue box. This has now been done for you. Click on the Search button to continue. TXTS To continue, you need to click on to the Range Rover Electrical Library to highlight that line and then click on the 'View' button. TXTS, 221 of 888
