Street Royalty 2003 |
STREET ROYALTY was a live performance and
monumental artwork by Doran George specially commissioned by The Netherlands
Transgender Film Festival in collaboration with Crossbreed to create
a temporary sculptural form using Bret Parker’s body. The name
“Street Royalty” refers to the slang “Street Queen”
which academic Susan Stryker cited as an important historical root of
contemporary transgender culture. The sculpture offered a point of contemplation
for the experiences of vulnerability and acts of strength that are integral
to the lives of transgender people.
