Sugar
Spit Balls 1991 -1996
sculpture/video
performance: sugar, spit, table with a spinning motor mounted inside.
During the opening of the exhibition
I sat on a stool and made the sugar spit balls. I would first spit into
the palm of my hand and then add a bit of sugar and slowly roll the two
together until the sugar was dissolved into the spit and I would add more
sugar. Each ball would be finished when the balance of sugar and spit
became solid enough to hold between two fingers. Once completed the ball
was placed on the table. The table slowly rocked back and forth, mimicking
the gesture that I was doing with my hand to create the balls. |
