PILLS 1996

Iris Prints on Glassine

The pill series is an examination of the osmotic quality of the body. In this work disease and cure are wrapped in one image. The diseased body and the medications that counteract the effects of the disease are represented. Cure, disease and body form a whole where these elements coexist in a tenuous balance.

The prints are three-dimensional computer renderings of medications that I take daily. Placing my body on a flatbed scanner I created a database of the surface of my skin. The pills' surfaces are "mapped" with these images. Prints of these images are computer generated Iris prints on glassine to give the images a texture similar to skin.
