Average Landscapes
2006
Digital Prints.
This project traces the historically encoded conceptions of the representation of landscape. These images analyze the inscription of the framing of landscape from the 19th century American landscape painters - which led to tourist postcards and the rise of tourism - to current formula for tourist snapshots.
The work uses a custom search engine that takes the titles from 19th century American Landscape paintings as its search criteria. The software gathers snapshots from the Internet and automatically merges those snapshots into one image
