The mission of The Archive is to preserve the history and collective
memory of the Jewish immigrant community from the former Soviet Union and
to create an engaging environment for today's immigrant culture. Founded
by a group of professionals, scholars and artists, who are immigrants themselves,
The Archive is the space where the Soviet Jewish community identifies itself
as a part of contemporary American reality.
- The Archive is an open forum for sharing the uniqueness and continuity
of Jewish identity-from shtetl life to Soviet urban settings, the resettlement
in the United States, and the multicultural experience of the new generations.
- The Archive offers an environment for experimental historical projects
and art exhibitions; screenings, readings, performances, and symposia;
literary and scholarly publications.
- The Archive collects oral histories, memoirs, letters, photographs,
video and film documents, publications, and artifacts pertaining to the
immigration experience of Soviet Jews.
