Bright Angel
Bright Angel
1972, trumpet and tape, Seesaw Music, 9', recorded on ES-5
"David Cope's Bright Angel was a tightly tailored treat of tintinnabulation. The
composer created an atmosphere of serene anticipation, gratified when the trumpet
struck out against the tape in a defiant interlude of rugged individualism, finally
subsiding back into the flow of sound. Bright Angel is a sensitive piece."
Fred Miller, CCT Review, vol. 1/no. 1, 1973
"Cope's Bright Angel is an effective piece for trumpet and tape. The soloist begins
with sustained tones which are echoed by faraway trumpet sounds on the tape. As the
piece progresses, the texture thickens, the recorded trumpets sometimes playing thick
chords or scrambly textures. A clear sense of dialogue between performer and tape is
maintained throughout and the piece is almost theatrical."
